Sequels can be tricky. While we always wish for them at the end of great first episodes, we may not realize how dangerous this can be. The second part returns us to the stories that we love, but they also fail us. simply and deeply disappointing. And this is exactly what Life is Strange: Double Exposure, unfortunately, is also the case with.
The continuation of the story Maxine Caulfield tries her best to live up to her predecessor, to give him a pinch of what we know very well, and a pinch of something of her own. Despite their best efforts, the creators of Deck Nine failed to create a new Life is Strange, but only a cheap copy of it.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure is a story-driven adventure game, a continuation of the first part of the series in 2015, developed by the DON’T NOD studio. Thus, the developers from the company Deck Nine for the second time after the canape prequel “Before the Storm” find themselves in the world of the heroine Maxine Caulfield, this time moving her story forward several years.
Max finds himself back on campus, this time as a lecturer at Caledonian University with his friend Safi, who is murdered one evening. The main character, determined to solve the murder, soon discovers that the mystery covers not only the death of a close friend, but also her own. Instead of rewinding time because Max can switch between two realitiesand although in one Safi really died, in the other she is still alive.
He really chose double exposure tempting plotwhich fits into the imaginary rules of the series and manages to captivate from the very beginning. The first chapter takes you through Max’s peaceful life, while the second and third take the story in unexpected directions. But the closer the narrative in chapters four and five gets to its conclusion, the more you begin to notice quick spots that will make absolutely no sense. And in particular, you will realize that although the story wants to follow the original’s pattern exactly, it is actually cowardly enough to it doesn’t try to create any bolder twist. So everything is low-fat and unsalted, and you don’t know what to take away from the conclusion. Perhaps, besides disappointment and surprise at which cinema you sat in, because you definitely didn’t buy a ticket for this Life is Strange.
