The brand’s return is unlikely at this time.
The Guerrilla Games studio has been around for almost ten years. strongly associated with the Horizon brand. Proof of this is the award-winning action adventures Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, which are among the most successful PlayStation exclusives in recent memory.
In the era of the second, third and partly fourth PlayStation, the Dutch team managed the Killzone brandwhich had been waiting for a sequel since 2013, when an episode with the subtitle Shadow Fall was released exclusively on the then-new PlayStation 4 console. The editors of The Washington Post magazine inquired about a possible continuation of the once famous action film.
Longtime art director Roy Postma is in charge of Guerrilla Games, which has high hopes for Guerrilla’s new Killzone. quickly brushed it off the table. “As a team, we are done with Killzone. In the past, we needed changes that were intentionally antithetical to Killzone.” postma hints at a move to Horizon.
In the interview, the art director also mentions attempts make the Horizon universe accessible to a wider audience. Part of this effort is Lego Horizon Adventures, which is being created in collaboration with Gobo and will be released in mid-November.
A question mark hangs over the future of the aforementioned Killzone series. While we can’t expect a new title from Guerrilla Games in the foreseeable future, it is possible that the sequel could be handled by another studio. After all, the rights to the brand belongs to Sony which will decide the future of the brand.
