Netflix Have you discovered that creating great games isn’t easy? Developing such games requires a lot of time and large investments. Apparently, the streaming giant did not like this, and after two years of work, it decided to close its AAA studio, where veterans of the gaming industry were preparing high-budget projects. They will probably never come out.
The studio was known as Team Blue and was based in Southern California. It included people from other major teams, such as Halo’s longtime creative director. Joseph Statenexecutive producer of Overwatch Chuck Sonny and art director Rafael Grassetti from Sony Santa Monica (God of War).
Netflix has never talked about what Team Blue is doing. From what little we know, it must have focused on big budget multiplatform games. Most likely, they will cross the borders of mobile devices and will be released on PC and possibly consoles. The aforementioned experts wanted to work together to create worlds full of iconic characters, secrets and endless adventures.
Staten said on social media that he is working on a new multi-platform AAA game and an original brand. What’s also interesting is that Team Blue was supposed to shut down earlier this month (game file reports), and Halo fans believe that Staten has returned to Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries), which recently had a vacant Creative Director position pushed back.
At this time, we don’t know why Netflix closed the studio. Perhaps he has reconsidered his strategy and instead of large and expensive games, he will focus on smaller ones for mobile devices that will be created much faster. They also own Spry Fox, Next Games, Boss Fight Entertainment or Night School Studio. Together with his partners he has a plan more than 80 games to its catalog of now over 100, it is expected that most will be simple games related to popular series such as Hollywood Brokers (Selling Sunset) and Emily in Paris.
