First Person Shooter XDefiant it was supposed to compete with the famous Call of Duty series. Ubisoft brought together its biggest brands and believed it could succeed. At first the game was quite good, but in the following months interest gradually decreased. This is not the first time that rumors have spread about a possible end to development.
Shawn Weber began spreading the latest. He calls himself a developer who knows people. According to him, XDefiant is already dead, although Ubisoft tried to turn the tide by asking testers to conduct more tests and feedback.
“I’ve heard from several sources that support for the game may end after season four if they fail to recruit enough players.” Shawn Weber reported.
Weber continued Insider Gaming’s report. According to the portal, the creators two seasons to improve results. At the end of August/August, XDefiant had a maximum of 20 thousand concurrent players across all platforms. For a free game, this is simply not enough. Shortly after launch, the game reached 8 million registered players. Then their number increased to 11 million.
Producer Mark Rubin could not stand the mounting speculation. On his personal X account, he denied reports that XDefiant was shutting down. “Literally since last week I have been holding meetings where we discuss our plans for second year of support” he wrote Ruby. In the meantime, they are focusing on improving technical capabilities, including netcode, and adding more content in seasons three and four. They will bring new factions, weapons and maps.
Rubin notices the mistakes they made. He thinks it’s the greatest lousy marketing. He acknowledges the decline in player interest, but says the team has time to improve the game. Only then is more money invested in marketing to attract new players and encourage the return of those who left.
