The lawsuit appeared in the District Court of Northern California. She is supported by two players – Trevor Lakes and Alex Rajoub. In their opinion, Ubisoft violated privacy protections in the application. Ubisoft Store and in the service Ubisoft Plus used analysis tool Facebook Pixel. The latter was supposed to collect player data and transfer it to Meta Platforms, Inc. for advertising purposes. (parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp). Moreover, according to the lawsuit, this data should have been at the fingertips of anyone with average technical skills.
The lawsuit alleges that Ubisoft intentionally placed the analytics tool on its sites and services to track user interactions. The lawsuit is based on the Privacy Act, which was passed in 1988 to protect consumer privacy. In 2013, the law was amended to allow the transfer of user data to social media platforms, but only if the user gives consent.
