Star Trek Online creators quit again after a year

Embracer pulled them from Gearbox a year ago.

Cryptic Studios lay off an unspecified number of people at the end of October. This comes less than a year after the team became the victim of massive cuts among the Swedish giants. Hug group. The affected developers drew attention to a fresh wave of resignations in the networks, this was also confirmed by art director Thomas Marrone.

“Unfortunately, October will be my last month at Cryptic Studios. I and many of my talented colleagues have been affected by the company’s latest layoffs. One of the main reasons I got into game development was to work with such wonderful and passionate people, and I’m proud to have been able to do it for six years,” artist Amelia March wrote on LinkedIn.

“I am participating in the retirement with other talented people who have become my family over the past ten years,” said senior artist Mauricio Tagerina.

The said studio art director also commented: “News of the upcoming layoffs at Cryptic has leaked outside of LinkedIn. I’m just saying that some great people get fired through no fault of their own. I worked with some of them for over a decade and their loss will be keenly felt.”

For Cryptic, this is the second apparently significant wave of layoffs in the past year. The first was part of a larger project by Embracer, which also spun the studio out of its Gearbox division to sell off the Borderlands developer and keep Cryptic for itself. The Lost Boys team is now in a similar, although perhaps even more difficult, situation.
