The studio miraculously avoided the crisis in the gaming industry.
Japanese studio FromSoftware announced an 11.8% increase in the base salary of its employees. The starting salary will increase even further, jumping by about 15% to 300,000 yen, or almost 47,000 crowns.
“We work to create games with the goal of conveying excitement, creating value and making people happy. We believe that to achieve this goal, it is necessary to create an environment in which each employee can focus on development, which provides a stable income and a rewarding work culture,” writes FromSoftware.
The significant salary increase is further evidence that the famous team has avoided the crisis associated with mass layoffs in the gaming industry. Head of studio Hidetaka Miyazaki he categorically rejected the possibility of layoffs in the summer: “I think it was Iwata-san, the former president of Nintendo, who said that ‘people who are afraid of losing their jobs are afraid of making good games.’ I think it’s true. (…) At least while I am responsible for this company, [propouštění] I won’t allow this.”
FromSoftware bought the rights to the brand last year Elden Ring. The game is also thanks to the expansion Shadow of Airdtree exceeded the value of 25 million units sold. The studio plans to move into self-publishing in the future, largely aided by investments from Sony and Tencent starting in 2022.
