Ubisoft veterans have secured financial support from Krafton and 1Up Ventures.
In 2017, we saw the game on the then-new Nintendo Switch, creating a previously unimaginable combination. Ubisoft teamed up with Nintendo to create an XCOM-style turn-based RPG called Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, and it was a huge success. Even so big that two years ago we saw a sequel, subtitled “Sparks of Hope,” which, despite its quality, was a financial failure.
In July of this year, we wrote that the creative director of the series, Davide Soliani, left Ubisoft’s Milan studio, where he had worked for 25 years. But he hasn’t finished developing the game yet, and while he didn’t want to reveal exactly where he’s going, now we know. We saw the opening of a new studio, Day 4 Night, which will operate in Los Angeles and Milan, GamesIndustry.biz magazine reports.
Behind him is veteran designer Christian Cantamessa, who worked on the first Red Dead Redemption, for example, as well as the upcoming Perfect Dark reboot for several years. The second founder is Soliani, who also brought with him several colleagues from Ubisoft Milan, namely producers Gian Marco Zanna and Cristina Nava, as well as combat designer Luca Breda, who will now serve as design director.
“When I first fell in love with video games early in my career, I saw the power of this new medium to tell stories that had never been told before and create worlds that could change people.” says Cantamessa. “Day 4 Night is a return to that innovative spirit, to innocence, to unlimited creativity.”
We don’t know much about the game the studio is working on yet, but it’s a brand new IP. One way or another, with her originality and creativity she managed to attract the attention of Krafton and 1Up Ventures, who financially supported the studio. In any case, we will have to wait several more years for the result.
