The upcoming RPG will likely be even more challenging than Dragon’s Dogma 2.
In addition to announcing the release date and pre-orders for the highly anticipated RPG Monster Hunter Wilds, developer Capcom has also released the hardware requirements for PC gamers. But the new information won’t make you happy, because it looks like the game will be perhaps even more demanding than Dragon’s Dogma 2, which had optimization issues.
At a minimum, Capcom mentions an Intel Core i5-10600, i3-12100F, or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, as well as an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT graphics card. The result should be 30 FPS at Full HD resolution (but upscaled from 720p) and the lowest possible graphics settings.
As for the recommended specs, the developers list the Intel Core i5-11600K, i5-12400, Ryzen 5 3600X, and Ryzen 5 5500 processors, as well as the RTX 2070 Super, RTX 4060, or RX 6700 XT GPU. Here you can already expect a native Full HD resolution at medium graphics settings, but be careful when using image generation.
There is a pretty fundamental problem here, as this is a technology that is not suited for such low frame rates, even AMD itself states in FSR 3 that the minimum frame rate (before frame generation is applied) should be around 60 FPS. If frame generation is used in this way, you can expect a smooth 60 FPS, but the latency will be significantly higher and the game will not respond.
In any case, the low base frame rate would be consistent with how the new Monster Hunter ran on the PS5, where we were able to test the game at Gamescom. There was a (non-frame-generating) target of 30 FPS, but the frame rate regularly dropped below that limit.
Otherwise, I’ll add that you’ll need 16GB of RAM and 140GB of SSD space. DirectStorage should be supported, allowing for better use of fast SSDs, as we’re used to on consoles.
