Both first-party and third-party studios have made improvements to their games.

Today’s State of Play gave us a look at a montage of enhanced games for the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro console, during which we learned the names of other games that will receive the PS5 Pro Enhanced label. We wrote about this last night, but shortly after, the PlayStation Blog published a lengthy article where individual developers presented, in more or less detail, the improvements we can expect. And we’ll analyze them here.

Polyphony digital

Gran Turismo 7

The first to speak was Polyphony Digital, which is tempting to improve the racing game Gran Turismo 7. The main attraction here is the addition of ray-traced reflections (both from other cars and car parts on the same car) directly to the racing, something that has only been available outside of real-time games until now. The developers had to sacrifice native 4K resolution, but they claim that PSSR upscaling can match the image quality of the native resolution.

The second addition is a mode with an output resolution of 8K at 60 FPS. The developers do not say this, but here, most likely, PSSR upscaling is also used, because the native 8K simply cannot cope with the GPU of this console.

Guerrilla games

Horizon Forbidden West

Continuing with another first game, another piece of information was revealed by the developers from Guerrilla Games, who are preparing improvements for two games at once. The first is Horizon Forbidden West, the second part of this series, which in the PS5 Pro version promises image quality at the level of the original Quality mode, but with a frequency of 60 FPS.

However, we did not find the main improvement in the resolution, but in the graphics settings. The PS5 Pro version should get better shadows, skin and hair, clouds and other improvements.

Horizon Zero Dawn Update

The remaster of the first part will also be improved for the new console, but here the developers were less frank. Usually they talk about improved graphics with high image quality and high frame rate.

Naughty dog

The Last of Us Part I and The Last of Us Part II Updates

Naughty Dog also has two games in the works, a remake of the first The Last of Us and a remaster of the second. Both games will get a brand new mode that internally renders at 1440p and then upscales it to 4K using PSSR, all at 60 frames per second.

The Fidelity and Performance modes from the original version will also still be available, and should work more stably due to their higher performance.

Games for insomnia

Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank

Developers Insomniac have prepared improvements for all of their games released on PS5, namely: Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man 2.

All of these games will now offer a Performance Pro mode, which offers 4K output and ray tracing, just like the original Fidelity mode, but at 60 frames per second. Again, this isn’t explicitly mentioned, but presumably uses PSSR upscaling.

Wolverine

There are no details here, but the developers have said that the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine game will also receive updates for the PS5 Pro, which should be even more significant than what we’re getting now.

Avalanche software

Hogwarts Legacy

Last year’s hit Hogwarts Legacy, set in the Harry Potter universe, will also be improved. The developers said that all modes will now use PSSR upscaling, which should lead to improved image quality. Ray tracing mode has undergone major changes, which should bring additional reflections and new RT shadows.

Capcom

Dragon’s Dogma 2

Capcom has three enhanced games for the PS5 Pro. The first is this year’s RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2, which lets you use PSSR upscaling for higher image quality, better ray tracing, and more stable frame rates.

Evil Village Abode

It’s pretty surprising that Capcom has delved a bit deeper into its portfolio and also improved Resident Evil Village from 2021. New here is the 120 FPS mode, which was not there before, while 7 and the remakes of 2 and 3 got it earlier.

Otherwise, the developers generally mention high resolution, but it is unclear whether they mean that the original modes have also been improved. At the very least, the ray tracing option should run more smoothly due to the higher performance.

Resident Evil 4

Of course, last year’s remake of the fourth part was not left aside, where the developers were even less accommodating. They only mention a higher frame rate and high resolution.

Electronic art

Dragon Age: Guardian of the Veil

Bioware has also prepared improvements for the PS5 Pro. Their new Dragon Age: The Veilguard will have a higher resolution and higher graphics settings on the PS5 Pro in both Fidelity and Performance modes.

In both modes PSSR was used, and in both modes we see RT Ambient occlusion, on the base PS5 it is only in Fidelity mode.

Star Wars: Jedi: Survivor

Respawn Studios is back with its action-adventure Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which recently received a conversion for the latest generation of consoles. However, this time, of course, instead of downgrading, they focused on upgrading.

In both modes, the PS5 Pro features a higher internal resolution, which is then scaled using PSSR. This technology should provide a higher image quality, which was quite problematic in the original game.

Koei Tecmo Games

Rise of the Ronin

PS exclusive Rise of the Ronin is also getting an update this March, but unfortunately the developer’s statement is very vague. All that’s clear is that we should expect higher frame rates and more detail.

Konami Digital Entertainment

Metal Gear Solid Delta

While we don’t know the release date yet, Konami has already confirmed that the remake of the third Metal Gear Solid will receive an enhanced version for the PS5 Pro. According to the Japanese developers, this should provide higher image quality thanks to PSSR and a smoother frame rate. We don’t know the details.

Nexon Games

First descendant

The sci-fi multiplayer game will feature better lighting and shadows, as well as higher image quality thanks to PSSR scaling. The developers are also working on support for FSR 3.1 image generation, which can be combined with Sony’s scaling.

Therapeutic games

Alan Wake 2

The Finnish developers have teased improvements for Alan Wake 2 before, and now we finally have official details. There are two modes left, but each will have changes and news.

Quality mode will now feature ray tracing, although it’s not yet clear to what extent this will be implemented; the PC version also supports full path tracing. Performance mode will feature better effects and a new 4K output resolution (previously 1440p), and will use PSSR technology for scaling.

Shift up

Star Blade

Third-person action game Stellar Blade from Korean developers Shift Up will bring two new modes to PS5 Pro, which are described rather strangely.

The first should provide 4K output resolution with PSSR upscaling, which should provide higher image quality. According to the blog, the frame rate is 50 fps, which seems rather odd, but is probably not intended to be locked, but rather an approximate value around which the frame rate can fluctuate. In the end, it will be similar to the previous Balanced mode.

A complete novelty will be the addition of the HFR mode with support for up to 120 FPS, but the developer states a value of 80 frames per second, which apparently indicates an average frame rate here too. Of course, for this mode you will need a display device with 120 Hz support.

Square Enix

Final Fantasy VII Reborn

One of the biggest improvements will be the second part of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, subtitled Rebirth, according to an analysis by Digital Foundry. But now we have official details.

Square Enix has chosen to create a completely new mode called Versatility, which should offer better graphics and a performance mode. The image quality will be very high thanks to PSSR upscaling (in some ways even better than the original quality mode), but with a smooth 60 frames per second.

Ubisoft

Motofestival “Ekipazh”

Developers Ivory Tower promise sharper visuals in their racing game thanks to PSSR, richer vegetation and overall object count, all at 60 frames per second.

Shadows of Assassin’s Creed

The new part of the famous series promises better graphics and image quality overall thanks to PSSR and the implementation of RTGI, that is, global illumination using ray tracing.
