It was called “the future of PlayStation.”
Fiasco Concord takes on a new dimension. Insider Colin Moriarty reveals the information that drives the amount 400 million dollars. That’s how much the failed hero shooter was supposed to cost to develop. Sony’s most expensive hits, Horizon Forbidden West and The Last of Us Part II, cost $212 million and $220 million, respectively.
The incredible number grew very quickly from the start. About half of the final cost was absorbed by development before the purchase. Firewolf Studios Sony in the spring of 2023. We don’t know how much Sony contributed to the funding before that point. But then they gave another 200 million to develop the game.
Moriarty notes that the game was in a very bad state at the time of the deal, and most of the Japanese giant’s money at the time was outsourced to finish the team-based shooter. At the time, monetization or adaptation were not even discussed.
Still, Concord was a Sony favorite. There was a morbid optimism surrounding the game, and it was touted as “the future of PlayStation.” Hermen Hulst, one of Sony’s current game directors, must have been a big fan.
Concord was not a success. After two weeks and about 25,000 copies sold, it shut down the servers. Although there is still hope for the game, for example, in using the free-to-play model, the developers are not too optimistic. On the contrary, they are eagerly waiting for Sony to decide on its future.
