Almost a fifth of Czechs over 16 years old call themselves gamers. 65% of people play games on PC, console or mobile phone at least occasionally. And they are the most popular game genre among domestic players. strategyThis and much more was revealed by the data of a new survey of gamers TIGO DNA, conducted on behalf of Smarty and JRC.
The new data reveals something that has long been known within the gaming community, but may come as a surprise to many outside of it. Playing computer, console or mobile games is interesting not only for children.. At least occasionally, 65% of Czechs aged 16 to 80 play a game on a computer, console or mobile phone. Those who spend at least 7 hours a week playing games, i.e. an average of at least an hour a day, make up 22% of the population over 16, i.e. more than a fifth.
JRC and Smarty, the largest game retailer in the Czech Republic, which organised the study, confirm that games are also interesting for adults. “Many of our customers that we meet in stores are adults. In their youth, they often played games, and to this day, it remains a hobby. They often pass on their love of games to their children, thanks to the existence of multiplayer games suitable for children, such as It Takes Two, which is often among the best-selling games in our country.” — says Petr Kratochvil to the seller.
The fact that we take games seriously is also evidenced by the fact that 18% of respondents over 16 years of age completely or rather agree with the term “gamer”. Logically, it is much more often the younger ones – 43% of the population aged 16-25 are gamers. At the age of 26-35, 33.5% of respondents call themselves such, and 22.3% of respondents aged 36-45 agree with being classified as gamers.
And it’s not just men, although there are slightly more of them among gamers: 22.5% of men would call themselves gamers, while among women – 13.3%.
“The data clearly shows that the classic gamer is not just a boy who turns on the computer after school and plays until the night. The group of gamers is very diverse and includes everyone who loves games and dedicates time to them like any other hobby. It would also be good to mention the phenomenon of streamers, who are followed by a considerable number of gamers and non-gamers, where their age range is also very wide, although the stereotype again could speak more about the younger generation. However, the opposite is true: each creator has his own unique style and can thus attract a certain group of fans. I will mention names like Agraelus, Mazarini or Andulli, with whom we have been collaborating for a long time and who can help gamers find a new perspective, for example on a type or style of games that they have neglected so far.” describes Peter Kratochvil.
