They either have developers or not Black Myth: Wukong secret agreement with Sony that prevents them from releasing the hit on Xbox Series X/S? Chinese studio Game Science has delayed these versions because they did not meet their standards. The creators say they need more time to optimize and will announce a date when the quality is satisfactory.
Then there were reports that the problems with the less powerful console were due to memory leak. This is an issue where a game can’t delete data placed in RAM. Performance gradually degrades until the game eventually crashes. This would also make sense given the hardware. The Xbox Series X has 16GB of RAM, while the Xbox Series S only has 10GB of RAM.
But last week, IGN and Forbes reported that Black Myth: Wukong has a PS5 exclusive that neither Sony nor Game Science are talking about. This agreement was de facto confirmed by a Microsoft representative, who denied that the delay was due to limitations on the Xbox consoles themselves.
“As we’ve said before, we’re excited to bring Black Myth: Wukong to Xbox Series X/S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms,” a Microsoft representative wrote to Forbes magazine.
“We prefer not to comment on agreements our partners have with other console manufacturers, but we can confirm that the delay is not due to limitations of the Xbox platform as previously assumed.” he added.
Microsoft’s statement rules out the idea that the delay was due to the Xbox Series S version of Black Myth: Wukong. It’s also not the first time Microsoft has mentioned an agreement with another manufacturer. But now it has added to the statement that this is not a limitation of the Xbox consoles themselves. So the question is how long the console’s exclusivity will last. Typically, it’s six months to a year. In other cases, it can be as short as three months.
Black Myth: Wukong in the First Three Days 10 million copies sold in PC and PlayStation 5 versions. According to analytics company Circana, it is the eighth most popular PS5 game in the US. Before this adventure game, there were mostly free games (Fortnite, Roblox), GTA V or EA Sports College Football 25. On PC, it is even in 5th place.
