The quality control department suffered the most.
Rocksteady Studios The developers of the Arkham Batman series had a clear reason to celebrate the failure of the cooperative action game released earlier this year Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The information was obtained on condition of anonymity from sources of Eurogamer magazine.
The cuts have had the biggest impact on the studio’s quality control department, which falls under Warner Bros.. More than half of the 33 testers lost their jobs, and some of the jobs have now been taken over by the remaining staff. Team leaders should have openly admitted that they expect lower quality of the final product.
However, layoffs also affected other divisions of Rocksteady. Most of those laid off worked in lower positions, but the “restructuring” also affected senior employees who had been with the team for five or more years. One of the developers was fired while on maternity leave. The studio has not yet commented.
A few months ago, Warner Bros. publicly acknowledged that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was a disappointment. The game failed in terms of reception and reviews, as well as sales and playability. Since the spring, the situation has not changed — the maximum number of simultaneous players on Steam does not exceed 150 people.
“The story campaign doesn’t renounce the creator of the Arkham series in places, and if you’re sold on the sometimes grotesque plot twists and bizarre humor, it can successfully entertain you for ten hours. But it’s worse in terms of longevity, because most activities are too similar, and the relatively competent mechanics of movement, combat, and loot are undermined by significantly weaker mission design,” we wrote about the game in our review.
