The console market changed dramatically at the beginning of the millennium, and it was dominated by almost only three players. Microsoft with its Xbox, Sony with PlayStation and Nintendo left no chance for competitors. For Microsoft, this was a start in this segment, which is, of course, extremely important. The original Xbox came with a rather unusual controller nicknamed “Duke”. Its ergonomics were not the best, so a year later it was replaced by a model with the simple name Controller S. It was smaller, more ergonomic and, as a result, much more popular. And this is what the Hyperkin DuchesS is based on.

Already in 2002, when the original version of this controller came to market, it had an atypical arrangement of levers, not symmetrical. A large number of players got used to the layout and still cannot stand it to this day. This is why the Controller S gained such popularity, and in the following years, Microsoft benefited from its design, albeit with a number of changes. But not everyone liked them.

The Hyperkin DuchesS is a reincarnation of the iconic Controller S, but with a number of improvements. Hyperkin equipped the controller with Hall effect levers that are very reliable and have no problems with “drift”. At the same time, they are really precise, which will please demanding players. This is a big upgrade even compared to the current Xbox controllers.

At the same time, DuchesS has buttons that can be found on modern controllers. For example, there is a quick button for exchange, which was not in the original version. At the back, in addition to the triggers, there is a pair of bumpers. Also an element that was not in the original version. However, their original analogue in the form of a black and white button under X, Y, A, B is not missing.

The interface has also received an update. DuchesS is still wired, but you connect it with a classic USB cable. In the package, you will find a 3-meter cable with USB-C on the controller side and USB-A on the device you are connecting. You can easily replace it with any other.

When it comes to compatibility, there is no shortage of Xbox certification directly from Microsoft. So, you will be able to play on current and previous generation consoles without any problems. In addition, you can easily connect the controller to your Windows 10 and 11 PC.

Hyperkin has a lot of experience with remakes of original controllers, and its portfolio includes models inspired by the Xbox 360 controller, the DualShock controller, and a number of special editions.

DuchesS is available in two color options. Classic black will fit into any gaming corner, gray is ideal if you like nostalgic accessories.
