With the upcoming release scheduled for February 11, 2025Like the Czech RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the developers are trying to improve the gameplay as much as possible and at the same time bring it closer to a larger number of players. One of the most significant changes is significant simplification of erasthat you had to go through in the previous parts. Instead of the classic advancement from prehistoric times to modern times, in Civilization 7 you will encounter with only three periods: Antiquity, the Age of Discoveries, and the Modern Age. This new format is said to be designed to make the game smoother and less tedious, which Firaxis says should increase players’ chances of completing the game.

Another important innovation is the ability to lead different civilizations during one playthrough. The new “layered history” concept means you can start as the Romans, move on to the Normans, and finally end up as the British. This also ties into the ruler news. Once again, individual leaders are not tied to specific civilizations. For example, you can start as the Egyptian Pharaoh Hatshepsut and lead your civilization through the Classical Period. When you enter the Age of Discovery, you can change your civilization to the Mongols if you have focused on building a strong cavalry, or to any other nation that suits your play style and the technologies you have learned so far.

Overall, this approach to managing different civilizations offers not only greater flexibility, but also the opportunity to experience a richer and more varied gameplay experience that differs from previous parts of the series.
