Last week, Nintendo surprised players with a short teaser for a horror title called Emo. Speculation immediately began to unfold, but it ended rather quickly, because today, Nintendo fully revealed the new game. There is no new horror IP, but it will indeed be an M-rated game, which is very unusual for Nintendo. And what’s even more interesting is that it is a continuation of a forgotten series.
EMIO — The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club — is the full title of the new game. It is the third installment in the Famicom Detective Club series, with the first two games originally released on the NES in 1988 and 1989. These visually-charged detective/adventures were revived in 2021 when they received a remake for the Switch, the studio taking care of them. Maga.
Whether she is working on a new project or this is purely an internal game by Nintendo is still unclear. However, thanks to a new video, we know that the series is being handled by Joshio Sakamoto, the creator of the previous two series, who is returning to the series after 35 years. He mentions in the video that while working on the removal, he thought the series should continue the IP with a new episode. “I was sure it would be good, so we decided to do it.” ” says Sakamoto. Emiya was responsible for almost everything, from the premise to the fine details of the script and cinematics.

In the third episode, we take on the role of a detective from the UTSUGI agency, and next to us again will be fellow Ajuma Tacibana, who we even play as in some passages. The story revolves around the legend of Emio, a murderer who allegedly placed a paper bag with a smile painted on it on the head of his victims.
But now it looks like such a case actually took place and we will have to investigate it. Was there a serial killer who killed before, or did someone just inspire the legend? In the game, we will interrogate witnesses and take important notes to solve the mystery.
Famicom Detective Club 3 is heading to Nintendo Switch and is out now August 29.
