Japanese company Capcom has announced a major milestone for one of its best-selling video games. 2021’s Resident Evil Village has sold over 10 million copies and counting. He managed to do this faster than all the units that reached the milestone.
Besides Village, two other games in the series have done this. The first was Resident Evil 7, about four and a half years after its release. The remake of Resident Evil 2 sold much faster and did it in three and a half years. The village existed for a little over three years. But let’s remember that unlike the previous two games (although ports are also in the works), Village took a closer look at the iPhone towards the end of last year. However, it is difficult to say how much this affected sales.
RE8’s record probably won’t last too long. Analyst Alex Aniel tweeted a graph showing the number of copies sold over time, and as you can see, the fourth installment remake is also on track to hit that milestone. According to Aniel, this could happen by the end of 2025.
Resident Evil Village is the fastest RE to reach the 10 million mark, reaching the milestone after 13 quarters. By comparison, RE2 (2019) took 15 quarters.
However, the Village’s record would be short-lived. RE4 (2023) is selling even faster, with the number expected to reach 10 million by the end of 2025. pic.twitter.com/7WPMxcEhNG
