Following the Xbox presentation, a new part of the Gears of War action series was announced – a prequel with the subtitle E-Day. However, beyond the trailer itself, we got even more details about Xbox Wire.

First of all, it should be said that according to the developers, this is not a spin-off. Although the game takes place at the beginning of the conflict with the Locust itself, it is a full-fledged part of the main series. On the other hand, the creators from The Coalition are quick to add that they are not outraged by the storyline of Gears 4 and 5, they just want to return to their roots for a while.

Of course, the series is known for its violence, but according to the developers, E-Day is going to go even further. After all, this is also due to the fact that the soldiers are just learning to fight monsters. Already in the trailer, we see that the main character Marcus Fenix will use everything he can in a tough fight against a “regular” opponent. The creators consider the locusts not just enemies, but literally “living nightmares.”

However, the beginning of the conflict with the Locust will not be the only topic. The Coalition also promises to focus on the relationship between Marcus and Dom, whom we know from the original trilogy as inseparable partners. However, here they still have to build their relationship, and they both will have to come to terms with the death of Dom’s older brother Carlos. We also have a lot to learn about the creation of the famous Lancer with a chainsaw, which does not yet exist at the beginning of the game.

Last but not least, developers are attracted to the technical side. They used Unreal Engine 5 for the first time and completely redesigned their tools. We can expect 100 times more detailed environments and characters compared to Gears 5, ray and shadow tracing, “next generation” destruction and gore, and advanced animations.

Unfortunately, even in the detailed article we did not find out information about the release date, and the platforms have not been officially announced either. At least as far as consoles are concerned, the game already has a Steam page and you can add it to your wishlist. At the same time, you will learn that the title must have subtitles in Czech.
