Sony deleted an interview published less than a week ago with Neil Druckmanncreative studio director Playful puppy, after the creator pointed out heavy editing of his words. The interview was transcribed to such an extent that the result cannot even be called a paraphrase of the original answers that Druckmann published.

An apology and information about downloading the text can now be found on the original interview site: “In re-evaluating our recent interview with Neil Druckmann (…) we discovered several significant errors and inaccuracies that do not reflect his views and values. (including topics such as animation, writing, technology, artificial intelligence and future projects). We apologize to Neil for misrepresenting his words and for any negative impact this interview may have had on him and his team.”

The most significant change in Neil Druckmann’s responses was probably the published and subsequently widely quoted sentence stating that the new team name “could redefine the conventional perception of gaming.” But the developer said nothing of the kind.

Sony relied on this response: “If you’re a gamer, you know the potential of games, while non-gamers don’t know what they’re missing out on. When we made The Last of Us, I hoped we would change that. (…) I’m looking forward not only to the upcoming game, which is something really new for us, but also to how the public will react to it. Thanks to The Last of Us and the success of the series, people outside the gaming world are looking to us for what we’ll release next. I’m very curious to see what the reaction will be to this game, which I’ve already said too much about.”
