In recent years, the French company Microids has brought with it several detective adventures, in particular with the famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. Be it last year’s adaptation of the Orient Express from Microids’ own Lyon studio, or the games subtitled The First Case and London Case from Blazing Griffin, the studio that published Microids. And it is this development team that will take care of the next adaptation, but this time it will be a little different, although the brand is similar in genre.
We are talking about the book series by Arsene Lupin, starring the robber of the same name, and it will be adapted into a game with the subtitle Once a Thief. In it, Lupine, together with Maurice Leblanc (author of the book series), tells us the most famous cases. As Lupin, we have to solve puzzles, use different disguises and try to outwit Detective Ganimard.
However, we will also play for him, in his role we will look at stories from a different angle, we will look for evidence, interrogate witnesses and create timelines. By the way, the legendary Gerlock Sholmes, or Leblanc’s cunning trick, which bypassed the trademark of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes, will not be left without attention. We also saw something similar a few years ago in the legal adventure game The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.
And speaking of Holmes, it should be added that the only game adaptation of Lupine so far was a game by the Ukrainian studio Frogwares called Sherlock Holmes Versus Arsene Lupin, where Lupine was only an antagonist, Sherlock played the main role, as in other titles of these studies. We can’t forget about Persona 5, which was largely inspired by LeBlanc’s series. In any case, this will be the first full adaptation.
Arsene Lupine – Once a Thief will be released later this year on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. You can already add the game to your wishlist on Steam.
