Ubisoft is about to release a free first-person shooter XDefiant. Now is the right time for him to reveal more information about how he plans to monetize this game.
In a free-to-play game, players are rightly concerned about pay-to-win elements, where players with bloated wallets can unlock things early that impact gameplay. Not to mention things that are only available through microtransactions.
Ubisoft says that all content that affects gameplay can be unlocked through challenges. Thus, the creators want to provide fair gaming experience for everyone. The Premium Battle Pass includes cosmetic items for weapons and characters, as well as animations and emotes. Additional factions will also be unlocked through microtransactions. The rest are waiting for some minor polishing, which isn’t unusual for these types of games.
However, Ubisoft claims that the progression system was designed to be beneficial. This experience includes a free Battle Pass, daily and weekly in-game challenges, Ubisoft Connect challenges, or community challenges.
XDefiant will release on PC and current-gen consoles tomorrow, May 21, 2024. On that day, it will offer five game modes, 14 maps, 24 weapons, and 44 gadgets. It will be possible to fight as characters from other series from Ubisoft. There will be janitors from The Division, agents from Splinter Cell, ghosts from Ghost Recon, guerrillas from Far Cry 6 or hackers from Watch Dogs.
