The seventh part of the legendary Polda series from the Czech studio Zima Software came out a few days ago and collects positive reviews. The title from the review got a very good 8 out of 10. But developers now have to deal with completely different things, because they have been hit hard by piracy.
Producer and programmer Peter Svoboda commented on this for Vortex magazine. He says that the illegal copy, to his surprise, appeared before the release, which means that only one of the HitHit backers, where the game was a huge success two years ago, is behind it. The man behind this calls himself Chico and still laughs at the authors. Freedom, of course, invites anyone who knows Chic’s identity to let him know. The case is not resolved by the police.
Developers are trying to remove hacked versions, but this is basically a fight against windmills, because more and more copies appear on all sorts of portals. Peter Svoboda is also trying to solve the situation by discussing it with people on the forums, but instead of understanding, he often receives vulgar insults.
Besides, financially, it doesn’t look very good for the studio yet. According to Svoboda, the development has not yet paid off and the games sold less than expected, in which the aforementioned piracy undoubtedly plays a role. The studio had big plans for the future, but right now they are not at all defined. The developers do not exclude the complete cessation of the development of the game.
“We really had a lot of plans – Steam versions of old parts, a remaster of Poldy 2 that people really like, a new Pold or a new dark adventure. But if you don’t sell the seven, then everything just collapses and I go to earn money, like an ordinary programmer, ” writes Freedom for Vortex magazine.
