Trusted Dusk Golem insider claims the next installment in the horror series resident Evil there will be an open world. Capcom According to him, he wants to use the new capabilities of the RE Engine, which underlies the new open world product. Dragon’s Dogma 2.
The only other thing I’ll add before I shut up and stop reading Twitter for now is that part of all three goals of the project is to preserve the DNA of the series. DD2 is still clearly Dragon’s Dogma, Wild is still clearly Monster Hunter, the same will be true for RE9 with Resident Evil.

Dusk Golem describes how Capcom works, approving projects in waves with a clear goal. As an example, he cites the launch of the RE Engine in three games: Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5. The success of the RE2 remake prompted the publisher to develop remakes of the third and fourth parts.
The latest wave is said to be based on the ability to create open worlds in the proprietary RE Engine. The first sign was Dragon’s Dogma 2, but the developers’ experience should also be reflected in Monster Hunter Wild and Resident Evil 9.
Dusk Golem adds that Capcom’s goal is to preserve the DNA of its series. Despite being a radical move for the series, Resident Evil 9 should retain the mood and mechanics of its predecessors.
