The highly anticipated RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 released today to very high critical scores (9 out of 10 in our review), but suffers from a significant issue in the form of unstable framerates on all platforms. The worst in this regard are populated areas, where a large number of NPCs cause significant CPU load. For this task, lowering the detail settings or lowering the resolution won’t help you (because such things will reduce the demands on the GPU, not the CPU), but players still came up with a very original solution.
The idea came to the mind of one of the users of the Dragon’s Dogma subreddit, reports IGN magazine. Essentially, the principle is quite simple: the CPU load is largely determined by the number of NPCs, so killing them will significantly relieve the CPU. The author of the post suggests that the community create a list of “expendable” NPCs that are not essential to the story, so that these innocent civilians can be sacrificed for the greater good.
The somewhat twisted idea makes sense, at least in theory, so it will be quite interesting to see if some players decide to take this step and whether such a decision brings the desired results.
