Everyone has to step aside sometimes. From Software has the second Dark Souls, Bethesda has Starfield, Arkane Redfall, and today a review of Rise of the Ronin from Team Ninja came out. I know this is not an ideal start to a review, but unfortunately there is no other way. I was really looking forward to this game. It reminded me more of the old Assassin’s Creed games than Ghost of Tsushima., which were simpler in the finale, but the atmosphere and plot saved everything. And that’s exactly what I got in the finale. But it’s already 2024, and players simply won’t forgive the outdated design. It’s a big shame because the combat system in the new Team Ninja game has been simplified compared to previous games to appeal even to players who aren’t very fond of Souls games. But technical errors, a boring open world and a strange decision-making system from Rise of Ronin makes for a very conflicting experience.
Rise of the Ronin is a role-playing game set in the second half of the nineteenth century in Japan. As a masterless samurai, you embark on a journey of revenge to Yokohama. But you quickly become entangled in the political problems associated with the shogunate and the large influx of Americans and British.
You play as one of the siblings, which you can customize in the editor down to the last detail. From a lock of hair to the corner of your knees. So even in the final you don’t have to be like your relative. In any case, you will spend a minimum of time with him. This is a story not about family, but about political intrigue. You will soon meet Ryoma, who will become your guide and replace the position of a sort of older brother or sister. He will explain to you what the so-called Black Ships are, what danger is facing Japan and how the shogunate and various clans are coping with the whole situation. You won’t have to worry about simply watching long dialogues. The game also contains a lot of fighting and larger fights.
History can be interesting sometimes. In particular, demos can highlight the dramatic aspects of good cinematography. But any decisions in the final are useless. Because about three of them only have a real impact in the later part of the game. Because of this, you will begin to ignore most of the proposed options and will be removed from the story, because it will still develop according to a predetermined scenario.
