Yesterday, after a relatively long delay, the Finnish studio Remedy finally published financial results for the last quarter of last year (October-December) and the entire year 2023. The press release was complemented by a video conference for investors, and we learned a lot of interesting information during it.

The company is currently working on four projects. The first is remakes of the first two parts of Max Payne, which are fully financed and published by Rockstar, the owner of the rights to this brand. Remedy recently revealed that the remake’s development budget is similar to that of Alan Wake 2, which could indicate relatively greater ambitions. According to Remedy, this is an important project with great potential for the future. Development continues as planned and in the second quarter (April-June) the project will move to the full production stage.

Currently in its most advanced stage is a project codenamed Condor, a cooperative multiplayer spin-off of the world of Control. The game is already in a playable state with a functional game base. According to Remedy, playtests showed positive reviews for both the gameplay and the co-op portion of the game. Full-scale production of the project will begin in March, that is, in the next few days.

Current status of projects

The third project is Control 2, a full-fledged continuation of 2019’s Control. This game is also already in playable state, although it is still in the proof of concept stage. Remedy notes that both internal and external playtests are very positive for a game so early in development. The project will enter the “production readiness” phase in the second quarter.

The latest game is a project codenamed Kestrel, which is a reboot of the Vanguard project that Remedy has been working on for several years. Kestrel is a premium game compared to Vanguard, and while it shares the co-op multiplayer aspect, it is a very different project that is still in development and will have a long wait to come.

Finally, plans for the future were also revealed. Alan Wake 2 has already sold 1.3 million copies, making it the studio’s best-selling game, and Remedy also acquired the rights to the Control brand a few weeks ago. Both series will become major brands (connected in the Remedy Connected universe) that will receive regular sequels. In addition to AAA games, Remedy also wants to create spin-offs and multiplayer games, but all of them should be aimed at hardcore gamers on PC or consoles.
