The Ukrainian team at Frogwares has had a tough time in recent years due to the ongoing Russian invasion, but continues to work on new projects. Last year we received a remake of Sherlock Holmes: An Awakening, and at today’s Xbox Partner Preview event a new title was announced, with details available via Xbox Wire.
This is a sequel to the 2019 detective-adventure film The Sinking City, inspired by the works of Lovecraft. The game was then published by Nacon, but the developers did not get along with it, and the dispute over the rights to this brand lasted several years. some years. However, in January of this year it was completed and the developers emerged victorious, so two months later they decided to announce the second part.
According to Frogwares, this is an important milestone. They want to fully immerse themselves in the Survival Horror genre for the first time (they have only implemented some of its elements so far), and at the same time, they are finally switching to new technology – Unreal Engine 5. We will look at America in the 1920s, namely the fictional city of Arkham . Again, of course, monsters await us, but this time the main character is someone new, we don’t know any details about him yet.
The bulk of the gameplay compared to the first part will consist of combat and exploration. The investigation is still present in the game, but it is now completely optional, so you can skip it altogether. It’s worth it, though, as some clues may lead you to alternative routes around the city or reveal a boss’ weakness.
The studio began work on the project shortly before the outbreak of war in February 2022, which forced the developers to leave the game for some time. But now they’re back in The Sinking City 2 and ready to finish the game.
As with the Sherlock remake, Frogwares once again decided to use a Kickstarter campaign to fund the entire project due to difficult conditions. It hasn’t launched yet, but we’ll have more information soon.
The Sinking City 2 will be released next year on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. For now, you can add the game to your wishlist on Steam.
