Yesterday, heads of Sony’s gaming division announced layoffs. The reduction will affect several leading studios around the world, which in total will lose about 900 employees. One of the affected teams British studio Firespritewhich most recently released the VR game Horizon Call of the Mountain in collaboration with Guerrilla Games.
Recently the studio was supposed to be working on T series rebootaged metal, which would make sense, especially considering the series was recently released. However, according to journalist Jason Schreier, this project was canceled due to the impact of cutbacks and the aforementioned layoffs. Schreier went on to say, citing his sources, that this was supposed to be a live-service game that was early in development and did not go through the necessary approval processes at Sony before it was officially cancelled.
NEW: As part of today’s mass layoff, Sony has canceled the online game Twisted Metal, which was in development at British studio Firesprite, Bloomberg has learned.
