Nvidia Unveils New App Combining GeForce Experience and Control Panel

Hardware manufacturers care not only about the components themselves, but also about the software that makes them easier to use. And although Nvidia also relies on powerful software, the quality of its applications has been lagging behind AMD for some time, which made a major upgrade several years ago. For a long time, Nvidia relied on a combination of GeForce Experience, where you can update drivers and make some settings changes, and the visually outdated Control Panel, which was used for more complex customization options.

But that’s finally about to change as a brand new app was unveiled on Thursday, simply called the Nvidia app, which combines the two previous programs. You won’t find all the Control Panel options in it yet, but most of the basic ones are already there. YouTube channel Hardware Unboxed has already tried the application and the impressions are very positive. The interface is modern and easy to navigate (the overlay has also been redesigned), and the application is considered very fast, which is of course very important for this type of software.

Perhaps the best news for many is the fact that you won’t need to sign into an Nvidia account, which was previously required by GeForce Experience. The login option still exists and you’ll need it to redeem coupons, but you can access everything else without it.

The application contains two new technologies. One is RTX Dynamic Vibrance, which can adjust the colors of the game or other program of your choice, and the other is RTX HDR. This feature was available a few weeks ago for videos, but now you can also use it for games, where it can convert an SDR image to HDR. Initial reviews are positive, with it reportedly performing better than the Auto HDR feature built into Windows.

If you want to try the Nvidia app, you can download it now. But it’s only a beta for now, and Nvidia promises more features will be added later, mentioning, for example, greater capabilities with support for the DLSS or AV1 codec for Shadowplay.
