Microsoft plans to reveal the future of Xbox in the form of a podcast tonight at 9:00 pm. This is a response to numerous speculations pointing to appearance of selected first-party games on other platforms led by rival PlayStation and Nintendo, and perhaps a more significant change in strategy across the entire Xbox. The podcast will feature top executives from Microsoft’s gaming division, led by CEO Phil Spencer, Xbox president Sarah Bond, and Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty, which in itself suggests this won’t be a minor announcement.
Even before the publication of the above-mentioned podcast, The Verge magazine reported information on three exclusives to date, which they should have targeted PlayStation and Nintendo first. In particular, these are the titles Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves and Pentiment. The first two games, of course, are not mentioned for the first time, so their release on other consoles can be considered almost decided. In contrast, Obsidian’s original detective adventure game Pentiment has yet to appear in leaks, so its arrival on PlayStation and Nintendo would be quite a surprise.
However, previous leaks have indicated that Microsoft may also allow other released or upcoming major games in its portfolio to be released on competing platforms. For example, it was about Gears of War series, the space RPG Starfield or the upcoming action Indiana Jones and the Big Circle from Machine Games. We’ll see what happens with today’s announcement.
