Interim PlayStation boss wants to boost profits by releasing more games simultaneously on PC – INDIA

After Jim Ryan left, he temporarily took over the reins of PlayStation. Hiroki Totoki, who is also the President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Sony Group Corporation. As it turned out, the Japanese company intends to continue the strategy of releasing single-player story games and multiplayer/cooperative games (the so-called live service).

Totoka has a purpose increase profits. One possibility, he said, would be to release more of its own games on PC at the same time as the PlayStation 5 version. Helldivers 2. Ryan has already expressed this idea in the case of online projects. It’s doubtful that a large single-player game could be released this way in the future.

“We used to want consoles to become popular, and the main goal of third-party games was to popularize the console,” Totoki said during the financial results presentation.

“It’s true, but there is a synergy. So if you have strong native content not only on our console but also on other platforms like PC, then native content can grow across multiple platforms and that can help drive revenue. So that’s another thing we want to work on.”

According to the interim head of PlayStation, there are opportunities to increase profits. That’s why intends to act aggressively to improve PlayStation profits. He didn’t reveal how to do this. But perhaps this will be related to internal teams. Totoki visited the PlayStation studio to see how they were doing. What he took away from the visit was that the studios are working hard to fulfill their obligations and trying to optimize the business side. And it is in the question of the use of money and the development schedule that Totoki sees room for improvement.

Today we also heard from him that Sony won’t be releasing sequels to its big franchise until April/April next year. But this does not exclude the release of small games, perhaps completely new brands and games with a live service.
