The anticipated RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 is slowly approaching, and in addition to the new trailers, we also received some pretty important information regarding the frame rate on consoles, which the developers are keeping secret for now. Game director Hideaki Ikuno is now looking for something new. general in a short tweet.
“Dragon’s Dogma 2 will release with unlocked framerate!” it’s written in the post. This isn’t entirely new for Capcom; this approach has been used in the new Resident Evils and other games. To be clear, by “unlocked framerate” we mean locked at 60fps. But the game often fails to achieve this goal, which is most likely the case with DD2.
As has already been seen in the trailers and confirmed by people who were able to try out the game in person at various events, the frame rate is quite unstable, which is quite a big problem. On Xbox, it can theoretically be closed using VRR (the refresh rate can go up to 24 Hz), but on PS5 the standard window ends at 48 Hz, which is clearly not enough.
With or without VRR, there’s always a lot of fluctuation, so it would make sense if Capcom offered the option to lock the frame rate at 30 (or 40) FPS. So far it looks like there is no such setting in the game.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released on March 22 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
