Disney invests $1.5 billion in Epic Games. The company’s goal is to build a metaverse (although the name is avoided) with Disney licenses connected to Fortnite apparently modeled in part on last year’s Lego Fortnite expansion. Epic has confirmed to GamesIndustry that the company remains entirely under the control of its boss Tim Sweeney.

“Our exciting collaboration with Epic Games will bring together Disney’s beloved brands and franchises with the wildly popular Fortnite in a transformative new world of gaming and entertainment,” says the Disney CEO. Robert Iger. He adds that this is the company’s largest entry into the world of video games to date.
There must be a new world open, permanent, social spacewhich will offer gaming opportunities but will also be a place for browsing, purchasing and downloading content from the Disney portfolio, be it Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar or Avatar.
Disney and Epic continue their collaboration, which has already been reflected in Fortnite through the presence of the above-mentioned brands. At the same time, this could be the first step in Disney’s speculative approach to the gaming industry.
