It’s the beginning of the year. After a year-long delay and a series of negative reactions from players, the open-world action shooter from the creators of the Batman: Arkham series from the English studio Rocksteady – Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League – is finally showing itself in full force. … Well if “beauty“Is that the right word, I don’t know.
No impressive comeback for Rocksteady nine years since the release of their last major game, Batman: Arkham Knight. unfortunately it doesn’t work. The problem is exactly what was said at the beginning of the review. It’s about interactive service, cooperative shooter-looter from a third person point of view. What the studio got stuck with the first time and what, unfortunately, it faced. Some things are soft, some things are hard.
The core of the game loop is a fairly simple concept. As members of the Suicide Squad, you undertake missions with the ultimate goal of killing enslaved members of the Justice League and stopping Brainiac’s invasion. But the problem is how you do it. Achieving this goal basically means doing one of four repetitive the types of missions you’ll play through over the course of a relatively short campaign with a very disappointing and virtually non-existent ending. You’ll have to beat up groups of enemies from time to time to allow your slow escort to move on. Other times you’ll have to beat up groups of enemies to destroy the generator. And of course, there’s also beating up a group of enemies to protect something or someone. In exceptional cases, you will have to beat up slightly smaller groups of enemies in order to escort civilians to the evacuation bus. And here and there you have to beat up groups of enemies… Just because.
Yes. Of course, it’s good that the marauder-shooter doesn’t shy away from fights. But after just a few hours of play you will feel like you are really here. no more meaningful add-on, which would enrich this basic gameplay. Let’s leave aside the variety of missions; even this number of enemy types is woefully small. Most of the time you’ll be fighting completely ordinary pawns who you’ll kill before they can do anything. After some time, snipers, stronger dancers and helicopters will join the battle. AND… Yes that’s it. From the very first minutes of the game, all battles are more or less the same and with minimal changes.
Honestly, this is the base and filling that will definitely find its fans. I have no doubt about it. And I admit that I did have fun at certain points, even when playing alone. However, looking back, I cannot help but state: that this is simply not enough. The game is definitely constantly trying to come up with new elements and options, which is the very essence of the game. But they mostly work as a patch rather than a solution to a problem that simply doesn’t exist. This way you will gradually discover not only new and better weapons, but also the possibility of improving or modifying them, grenades, modifiers, status effects, additional items and another, now quite classic and, frankly speaking, mechanics that can be expected from similar games. But they aren’t solved by the monotonous combat system, which is based on nothing more than mindlessly shooting the same type of enemies throughout the game, and which frankly isn’t very motivating to come up with a good combination. equipment.
