Almost all of last year we seemed to be “complaining” that an absurd amount of games were released, not a single month was quieter, and besides, among the large number of games there were actually a lot of really good quality. If the first month of this year is any indication of what it’s going to be like this year, it’s going to be even wilder than I honestly can’t even imagine. In other years, January was a quiet and peaceful month, when everyone seemed to be catching up on vacation and relaxing after the holidays. But instead this year we got two bombastic JRPGs – Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth took us to Hawaii with a group of 40-somethings, and Perona 3 Reload offered an unforgettable (school) year with Japanese schoolchildren. The return of the Prince of Persia was also extremely successful. In addition to great traditional games, there are some great games coming to Early Access, be it the strategy game New Cycle or the enjoyable madness that is Palworld.
Beyond the games themselves, we’ve also seen the start of game shows this year, which kicked off in January with a meaty Xbox Direct. Today it will be followed by PlayStation with its State of Play, from which we also expect a lot. And it’s no secret (actually it is, but it’s kind of an open secret) that Nintendo is also gritting its teeth with some kind of revelation for this year, possibly a relatively new console. In any case, the booming gaming season will continue as it should in February, with, among other things, the long-awaited Final Fantasy VII Rebirth or the mysterious but very seductive duo of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and Pacific Drive. We’re already hard at work on some of our February reviews and can’t wait to share them with you.

While January has typically been one of the quieter months, that’s definitely not the case this year. There were a lot of games waiting for us, and, of course, I didn’t even have time to try out all the ones I wanted to try. I spent the better part of a month finishing up the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy, which is really cool and you can read more about it in the review (also in video form). Paradoxically, spending two months on an adventure visual novel didn’t mean I was lost on the genre, but instead, I wanted more. So a few days ago I played the first part of the Zero Escape series (999) on the Steam Deck, which I still really like.
Additionally, I reviewed the highly successful metroidvania Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (again, also in video form), the unconventional strategy game War Hospital, which was unfortunately quite disappointing, and recorded my impressions of the surprisingly well-crafted strategy game New Cycle. which appeared in early access a few weeks ago.
Even in February there will be no shortage of games. I’m looking forward to Exiles: Ghosts of New Eden, as well as The Miracle Worker, a remake of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, or a remake of Mario vs. Donkey Kong. There are also two big JRPGs coming out that I’m still not sure I want to play, but I’ll probably try Persona 3 Reload just because it’s on Game Pass. And of course, I can’t forget about the Legion Tales expansion for Last Train Home, which comes out tomorrow.

In January, I got rid of new games and got stuck in old ones. And how I liked them! I first played through the second round of Hades, where I did my best and discovered some important details that I missed the first time many years ago (you know, like what happens when you “strengthen” the friendship between the Minotaur and Theseus). ?Not nice). And then I turned on the amazing detective story from a year ago, “The Case of the Golden Idol,” on my laptop computer. If you’ve missed it so far and enjoy solving murders, dabbling in the occult, and solving puzzles, be sure to catch up. While the game’s fancy graphics won’t please the graphics-hungry eye, it will entertain. And we’ll probably have another episode this year.
The next month is a big unknown for me. But I’d like to move on to a little title called Open Roads, which also features Kaitlyn Dever, the actress who will be seen next year as Abby in The Last of Us. This more “cinematic” game, with an emphasis on story rather than gameplay, will follow the journey of a mother and teenage daughter as they try to get to know each other better during their journey. The game was also affected by the case surrounding the studio Fullbright, which originally worked on it, but over time began to suffer due to the behavior of founder Steve Gaynor. So it will be interesting to see how the final part turns out.

In the first month of the year I returned to some old games. Perhaps somewhat paradoxically, I devoted most of my time to the game Dakar Desert Rally, which, even more than a year after its release, still has a number of bugs and shortcomings. However, since the real Dakar took place in the first half of the month (the famous long-distance competition on which the game is based), thanks to the complex navigation system and licensed content, I was still able to enjoy its game branch. However, the main part of it is the attractive theme and the connection with the current year of the famous competition.
Looking at the February supply, it becomes clear that we are definitely not in for a weak month. For myself, I would especially like to highlight the remake of the cooperative adventure game Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons by Josef Fares and the licensed racing game Le Mans Ultimate from studio 397. However, from the material I was also interested in the unconventional “car” Survival Pacific Drive or the ambitious role-playing action game Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, created by the creators of Life is Strange from the Don’t Nod studio.

January, and before that even December, were not really gaming months for me. Despite the rather “study period”, I got to Baldur’s Gate 3, for which I also wrote short impressions, mainly focused on the Xbox version. I’ve completed the first act and now the rest of the adventure awaits me.
The upcoming Hellblade 2 made me return to the first part, which was gradually fading from my memory. I remembered the wonderful atmosphere, but was very pleasantly surprised by the story and its storytelling. Not to mention the incredible sound. Last week I also installed a really old rest in the form of Obsidian’s Pentiment.
The first games that really interest me this year come out in February. I consider myself a Don’t Nod fan, so Banishers was immediately on my wish list. I’m also very interested in learning about Thaumaturge, published by 11 Bit Studios. I’m also looking for a remake of the third Persona, but with that one after the experience with five I’ll probably wait until I have a few hundred hours of free time.

It’s the start of a new year, and with it comes a gaming drought. Yes, right. I finally rested. While I spent a lot of time playing Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, I spent most of my time playing board games this month. Thanks to this, I was able to complete the dark story of the Sun Island trilogy, travel to Japan where I chopped off heads in Senjutsu, face the universe in MLEM, or fight for survival in the bowels of a complex on Mars during the Nemesis campaign : Lockdown.” . In short, even during this “drought” I was not bored.
In the case of February, I expect a higher load in games. Most of all, I’m probably looking forward to the hellish strategy Solium Infernum, the format of which I like, which the creators came up with. However, I hope that while I’m conquering the depths of hell, I will still have time for the isometric RPG The Thaumaturge or the “relaxing” game Mario vs. Donkey Kong. However, overall the start of the year is looking calmer, which I probably welcome as a result.
