Blizzard introduced its new president, who, effective February 5, will replace Mike Ibarra, who left the company last week due to mass layoffs at Microsoft. Former Call of Duty general manager will become head of Diablo, Overwatch or World of Warcraft developers Joanna Faris.
“I intend to do everything in my power to help Blizzard succeed, with respect for you and our games, each of which is unique and special in its own way,” Faris wrote to the developers. She said she understands that Blizzard games are different from the Call of Duty she has worked on so far, and that running the company will require a different approach than her current role.
He doesn’t forget the current layoffs, which have had a significant impact on Blizzard: “Today also brings mixed feelings. “The loss of talented colleagues in recent days is difficult to reconcile with the tremendous excitement I feel about joining Blizzard and continuing to build on the foundation you have laid.”
Joanna Faris joined Activision Blizzard in 2018. She has been involved with Call of Duty since the beginning of her tenure, first in charge of esports and then becoming the brand’s general manager. Before that, she was an NFL manager for over eleven years.
The new president was also introduced to employees by her line manager, Matt Booty: “The universes you have built with obvious dedication to your craft span decades. This is truly something special. I’m thrilled to work with Joanna and all of you to expand these rare worlds, find new ways for people to experience them, and accelerate the impressive progress you’re already making.”
