According to Bloomberg’s source, the new Nintendo Switch will have an 8-inch LCD display.

After some time, more rumors appeared about a new console from Nintendo, which we are accustomed to conventionally call “Switch 2,” although, given the history of this Japanese company, it is very likely that the device will be called something else. Last year there was already talk that the console would be presented to developers at Gamescom, but even before the event itself, VGC and Eurogamer magazines, as well as the presenter NateTheHate, shared interesting information. Subsequently, there was talk of 4K setup using DLSS upscale or ray tracing support.

Today we have a new report, this time from Bloomberg magazine. However, the source is analyst Hiroshi Hajase, who works at Omdia. It focuses on small and medium-sized displays, and also draws its forecasts from sources in companies involved in the supply chain. Hajase told Bloomberg that the new Switch is expected to have an 8-inch LCD display. Nintendo declined to comment on this information when asked by Bloomberg.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the same data. The aforementioned NateTheHate also talked about an 8-inch LCD display, so this information seems increasingly likely. It would be a further increase in display (the original Switch was 6.2 inches and the OLED version was 7 inches), but going back to an LCD is quite strange considering the OLED version of the original Switch has been around for over 2 years.

OLED offers many times better (and virtually infinite) contrast, viewing angles and color reproduction. On the other hand, it would probably be more expensive, and Nintendo might decide to skimp on the display. Additionally, we don’t yet know details regarding resolution or specific panel type. There is still a possibility that it could be, for example, miniLED technology, although it is less likely.

But if one thing is almost certain, it’s the fact that a new console from Nintendo should arrive this year, and possibly sometime in the fall. The announcement itself could happen in the first half of this year.
