Earlier this week, Nvidia released an open beta version of its new tool called RTX Remix. This allows community creators to introduce modern technologies into old games from Nvidia, such as Path Tracing, RTX IO, DLSS or Reflex. Among the first successful projects were improved versions of games such as Half Life 2, Portal or Max Payne. Using the same tool, a modified version of the legendary first Mafia by the Czech studio Illusion Softworks is currently being created.
Behind the project called Mafia RTX Remix The speaker is the author with the nickname Baaz: The Falcon, who recently published premiere gameplay footage. While it should be kept in mind that this is still a work in progress, the “improved” version was met with some pretty harsh criticism. According to some players, RTX Remix even looks significantly worse than the original 2002 version.
The quality of faces and the processing of character models and vehicles are particularly criticized. The author of this remake clearly still has a lot of work to do. But it is likely that this attempt will be made in the future with the development of the RTX Remix platform. other, slightly more successful projects will follow.
