MSI is preparing its own handheld, apparently using a chip from Intel

The Steam Deck started a wave of portable devices in 2022, so last year we saw competition from two major companies, namely Asus and Lenovo, with Valve itself introducing an improved Deck with an OLED display. But as soon as the new year has begun, we already learn about another player in the increasingly popular market, this is the MSI company. The same one in a short video on social networks beckons on your laptop.

We can expect a full presentation at CES in a few days, but we may have learned some very interesting information in advance. For contribution he replied Intel Gaming Twitter account indicating that MSI will use an Intel chip for the device. This would essentially be its debut in the handheld space, as Steam Deck and other competitors use AMD’s already proven APUs.

But if the supplier were Intel, then we could probably expect a processor with the new Meteor Lake architecture and, perhaps more interestingly, a graphics chip built on the Arc architecture, which has solid performance not only in rasterization, but also in ray tracing and support for an enhanced version of XeSS with “XMX” scaling.

On the other hand, Intel graphics tend to have problems with older games (although a lot of work has been done on drivers over the past year), which is a pretty fundamental drawback for handhelds. But it’s too early to draw conclusions and we’ll have to wait for the performance and the release itself.
