In addition to the traditional The Game Awards conference, December also brought several anticipated titles. For example, we saw the release of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora from Ubisoft or the survival game The Day Before, which was only available for a few days. The free expansion for God of War Ragnarok called Valhalla, the strategy game Against the Storm or the isometric role-playing game Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader have also attracted interest from players.

In the first month of 2024, players will see the return of several famous series. For example, the new Prince of Persia with the subtitle The Lost Crown, the eighth part of the fighting game Tekken, or the continuation of the Like a Dragon series with the nickname Infinite Wealth will be in demand. It is worth highlighting other expected games. remaster of The Last of Us Part II or the “Military Hospital” and “New Cycle” strategies.

We don’t usually include community mods in our monthly roundups of the most anticipated games. But we will make an exception in the case of a project called Portal Revolution. The ambitious community project will also offer its own story, which will precede the events of the second part.

Since its announcement, the upcoming War Hospital game has been watched with interest mainly by fans of strategy games and the game Frostpunk, which inspired the developers from the Polish studio Brave Lamb, at least in terms of visual presentation and emphasis on choice. The game will take you back to the First World War, where you will have to take care of the functioning of a British field hospital. In addition to infirmary management and elections, the authors also promise to focus on survival mechanics and historical accuracy.


New cycle

The aforementioned War Hospital game, surprisingly, will not be the only January game that, at first glance, does not hide its inspiration from Frostpunk. The developers of the New Cycle strategy also want to create an honest survival strategy that includes elections. At the same time, New Cycle will focus on a post-apocalyptic setting with a dash of dieselpunk. In this world, destroyed by the eruption of the Sun, you will try to build a new civilization.


Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

After fourteen long years, a new part of the Prince of Persia series will be released in mid-January. The new product, subtitled The Lost Crown, wants to return to the roots of this brand. Thus, from a genre point of view, it will belong to the 2.5D platformer genre, from which certain mechanics and the composition of the game world will also be borrowed.

The developers from the Ubisoft Montpellier studio are enticing with the new hero Sargon and the presence of mechanics borrowed from Metroidvania games. There will also be a gradual improvement in the main character’s abilities and frequent battles with enemies.


The Last of Us Part 2 Update

In January, developers from the Naughty Dog studio will present the long-awaited remaster of The Last of Us Part II for PlayStation 5. Players can also expect faster loading times, DualSense controller support, or an all-new roguelike mode called No Return. In addition to these new features, the remaster will also include several locations that ultimately did not make it into the original version of the game.

Among the pleasant surprises of the January offering may be the game Enshrouded, which will rely on a combination of RPG and survival mechanics in an open world. Of course, the story will also involve various gangs and individual yakuza.

The return of the fighting game Tekken also proves that the end of the month will be predominantly in the style of Japanese games.
