Dark Souls: Role Playing Game It’s finally available in some parts of the world, but players couldn’t celebrate it, as the included 500-page rulebook was full of errors, some minor, some very serious.
Dark Souls: The Roleplaying Game players specifically pointed out, via Reddit, that the rulebook contains multiple typos: one example is “qualifications” (proficiency spelled), but also “radian” (rather than shiny). These are annoying and avoidable blemishes, but they are not the biggest problem. In fact, the Knight class is indicated to start the game with a lower Power point than is required to wear their starting armor. Similarly, the mage class starts with stats that do not allow him to use the recommended weapon.
Creator Steamforged said it will listen to all feedback on the digital version of the book and fix issues, but that issues shouldn’t limit playability. The team said in translation: “At Steamforged, our primary goal has always been to create engaging desktop experiences that capture the hearts and imaginations of our fans, immersing them in vibrant worlds where they can be lost in time.”
“While we feel we accomplished this with Dark Souls: The Roleplaying Game in light of a lot of positive reviews, we are aware of the concerns some have expressed and we take all feedback seriously. These concerns shouldn’t affect the gameplay of the game, but we do it to ensure that our loyal fans continue to enjoy the games we publish. We’re always trying to improve our processes.”
The rulebook under discussion is included in pre-orders for Collector’s Editions, which was made available in Europe and the UK last month for early buyers. It is expected to launch in the US in May.
If you’re a fan of all things Dark Souls, we’d like to point out this little attempt: Dark Souls 3 was completed without a single step.
