The choice of the first race is critical in the Galactic Alliance.

Galactic Alliance 4X Strategy is definitely not a card game, but that doesn’t mean the cards don’t influence how the game plays out. At the very beginning of the game, you choose one piece from seven random faction cards. This will be your first faction, which will become the cornerstone of the entire alliance. In total, forty races are available to you, the range of which is made up of really interesting-looking intelligent species of animals. In addition to insectoid humanoids and molten oddities, the human race is also present in the palette.

Forty groups of the Galactic Alliance are working with them – a considerable number. Each race has certain starting conditions if it is introduced as a main faction. For example, Humans start their journey with one cruiser and a credit, while Locusts initially have four cruisers. The Relicians, starting their journey through space with zero credits and spaceships, have very interesting conditions, which doesn’t exactly make them an ideal starting group, but it’s not always easy to succeed. However, the joining bonus is not the only thing the group offers you. Each of them has some skills and technologies. For example, Amoebas benefit from water planets, and Celestians gain prestige for every two technology tokens in the nomination event, giving you victory points.

Of course, there are other ways to get victory points. Thanks to this, you can focus on discovering mysterious artifacts, gaining influence, or conquering worlds, which is also a way to achieve victory. Like any true 4X strategy game, Galactic Alliance has a variety of possible actions. For example, if you want to start occupying worlds, you have no choice but to go into production. In it, you will generate cruisers for money, which will make you the Ruler of the War phase, whose right is to occupy an unprotected world within your reach. The range is determined by whether the planet is near you or on the other side of the board.

When you invade, you don’t have to deal with the fact that your races will have to adapt to the environment, you just take over the world. However, there is one catch. If you forcibly take a planet from someone from the Galactic Alliance, you will not receive resources for it. With the acquired worlds, you will be able to work for a long time and invest in their development, which will ultimately bring you a larger volume of victory points, because simply no one likes undeveloped planets. The range of activities here is very varied and for first-timers it can sometimes be a little overwhelming. But for fans of the genre, colonization, nomination, exploration, research or trade will quickly get into their blood.

Each turn gives you the opportunity to play one faction card in addition to your normal actions. There are more ways to play it. You can choose another main faction from a maximum of three possible ones. You can then take advantage of his abilities and technologies, which will give you the opportunity to create some really interesting combinations. The faction card can also serve as a one-time boost in the Galactic Alliance or be used to colonize a chosen world. At the end of the entire game, you tally the prestige, occupied territories, and the direction in which your factions’ trefoil was pointed. The resulting number then determines the winner.

Fans of 4X strategy can contact Galactic Alliances

Galactic Alliance is a relatively fast 4X strategy game in your pocket where you can count on everything that belongs to the genre. You have the opportunity to follow the path of development, to shape the world through industry or even force. I wouldn’t be afraid to call the entire visual treatment a huge success. A big role here is played by cards, which, once picked up, can be used in a total of four ways. I consider the fact that the creators offer a truly extensive set of races, numbering up to forty, to be a great advantage.

Some players may find it more difficult to process all components. Although Galactic Alliances comes in a relatively small box, I’m not afraid to say that it is jam-packed, so unpacking everything will take some time. Everything is, at least in my opinion, moderately accessible, so the age limit set is understandable. But the pacing is decent, so if you’re looking for something on the table that reminds you of Stellaris or other similar titles in a certain way, this isn’t a bad choice.
