In an interview with Spite.cz magazine, the developers of the Slovak studio Team Vvat revealed some information and details about the upcoming city event Vluch Slovakia, which, despite incomparably lower production values, does not in many ways hide its inspiration from the series. for example, Grand Theft Auto or Mafia.
Inspired by Mafia and GTA.
What would happen if one of the award-winning Grand Theft Auto series was set in Slovakia or the Czech Republic? A twelve-person development team from the Slovak studio Team Vvat is trying to find the answer to this question with the help of the game Vvat Slovakia.
“The basic genre of action-adventure or urban action or, in our opinion, “in the style of Mafia and GTA” in the home environment has been and remains the dream of almost every gamer,” – said producer Roman Lipka in an interview with Spite magazine. “We decided to try this genre because we actively modified the Grand Theft Auto series, for example, translating textures into Slovak, so at least in this way we got an idea of game development.” Another source of inspiration for the authors was the Slovak film Abduction, a political thriller based on real events that occurred in the mid-1990s.
Briefly about Bratislava.
Vivat Slovakia takes place in Bratislava. However, the authors failed to include the capital of Slovakia in the game on a 1:1 scale. Therefore, the developers had to modify and reduce the environment to suit themselves. However, despite this, the authority of the Slovak metropolis must be preserved.
“Bratislava is only the younger sister of the magnificent Prague in terms of area, but in terms of game processing in 3D it is simply a mouthful. Perhaps too much, which we were partially aware of at the beginning of development. This is why the game map of Bratislava is skewed towards the most important parts of the city, such as Petržalka, the ghetto or concrete jungle, the historical center of the Old Town, the suburbs of the New Town and the industrial Ruzinov. Even these parts of the city do not quite correspond to their real model. The streets have become shorter and some have been completely drained.” The authors further found that the resulting area of virtual Bratislava corresponds to approximately ten square kilometers. Despite this, during a walk or trip you will meet all the main symbols of the real city.
Release date is approaching
If all goes according to plan, the authors would like to launch early access within the next year. “For players from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, we have an internal date set for the first quarter of 2024. Please keep your fingers crossed so we can make it all happen.” Add developers to the upcoming deadline.
Producer Roman Lipka spoke much more about the game. He talked, for example, about the main character, the functioning of the game world, the theft of a car, or the presence of firearms. The full interview and a selection of new screenshots can be found in a separate article in sister magazine Spite.cz.
