Baldur’s Gate 3 cutscene animator Jim Southworth dies

Studio Larian announced that he had died Jim Southworth, cinematic animation heads Baldur’s Gate 3. “Jim cared deeply about his team, and it showed in his work. He loved making games, and we loved making them with him. We will all miss him,” the team wrote on Twitter/X.

She also remembered, for example, the head of the London PlayStation studio Tara Saunders: “I worked with Jim in the London studio and will always remember him as warm, friendly and a family man. Rest in peace Jim, my thoughts are with all his family, friends and colleagues.”

Southworth began work on Baldur’s Gate 3 in 2019 as a member of the external team at Turbulenz Limited and joined Larian in early 2021. He previously worked as an animator or art director for games such as Limitless, Wonderbook: Book of Spells, EyeToy: Kinetic or MediEvil: Resurrection.
