Even the first name of this team was supposed to be called Vanguard, and we were promised a cooperative free-to-play game. Moreover, the Chinese media giant Tencent was involved in its creation, which was supposed to ensure the release of the game in selected Asian markets and the creation of a version for mobile phones. But now everything is different.

Unfortunately, Remedy’s collaboration with its Chinese comrades did not work out, but we guess that the electricity bills in the studio will somehow have to be paid. After development of Project Vanguard recently reached the end of the game’s proof-of-concept period, both companies have reconsidered their plans. And this is because of the uncertainty in creating successful games for the free-to-play market and the risks associated with it. Result a new direction of all efforts, turning the free cooperative project Avangard into a premium one, i.e. a classic paid co-op project with a new working title Kestrel.

However, this change leads to the development of the project is returning to the conceptual phase, so we will wait for Kestrel. Some of the original Vanguard team is even expected to move on to develop other future games from Remedy, including Control 2, a co-op game from the world of Control tentatively titled Condor, a remake of Max Payne 1 and 2, or Night Springs and The Lake House, that is. two paid expansions of the recently released game Alan Wake 2.
