It’s only been a few weeks since the release of Alan Wake 2, the anticipated sequel and the latest game from the Finnish studio Remedy, which, however, is already busy with other projects. In particular, this is Control 2, the multiplayer spin-off of Control called Condor, a remake of the first two parts of Max Payne and, last but not least, the Vanguard project, which was conceived as a free-to-play cooperative multiplayer. on which Remedy is collaborating with Tencent. However, the studio has now announced in a press release that plans have changed somewhat.
The fact that Vanguard spent so much time in the proof-of-concept phase could likely indicate some problems. In any case, after consulting with Tencent, Remedy decided to soft reset the entire project, returning it to the concept stage. At the same time, that part of the team that will work on other projects will remain only the core. The project will be renamed Kestrel and will still have a co-op multiplayer element, but it will be a premium game that will be more in line with Remedy’s style.
“After careful consideration, we believe that taking a new direction in which the game builds on Remedy’s core capabilities is the right way to go.” says Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment. “We are creating another special Remedy game with the continued support of Tencent in co-op multiplayer mode.”
We’ll definitely have to wait for Kestrel. Remakes of Condor and Max Payne are currently in the deepest stages of development, with both projects likely to go into production soon. In addition, Remedy plans to release two story DLCs for Alan Wake 2 next year.
