There are many mysterious characters in Survival Horror Alan Wake 2, and one of the most mysterious by far is Warlin’s Door. He is a character that is somewhat related to Martin Hatch from Quantum Break, as he has similar characteristics as well as a name (a door is a door, a hatch is a hatch). In principle, this is a similar case with Alex Casey, who appears as an “echo” of Max Payne. But while Casey was portrayed by the same people as Payne (voiced by James McCaffrey and fronted by Sam Lake), that wasn’t possible with Dor. Lance Reddick, who played Hatch in Quantum Divide, died in March of this year. But after the show, fans wondered whether Reddick should have played the role of Dor in the first place.
Journalist Jason Schreier found the answer today on his Triple Click podcast. He was interested in the same thing and reached out to his contact at Remedy, who confirmed that Reddick was indeed slated to play Warlin Dore. Unfortunately this did not happen, the role was eventually played by David Harewood. It’s amazing that they managed to find a replacement and film all the necessary scenes in just a few months. Additionally, Harewood has done a very good job and his delivery (especially late in the game) is very reminiscent of Reddick.
So while we may never see a full connection through the same actor again, Varlin’s Door is further confirmation of the “unofficially official” inclusion of Quantum Divide in the Remedy Connected universe.
