Polish studio CD Projekt RED is currently primarily focused on developing the new Witcher, with most of the team currently working there. But this is also among other ambitious projects. Sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. codenamed Project Orion. CD Projekt’s overall plans for this brand were revealed by narrative director Igor Sarzhinsky in an interview with PC Gamer magazine.
According to him, he would like to make sure that Cyberpunk as a brand followed the same path as the Witcher series, which underwent significant evolution compared to the previous three parts and only truly achieved significant success with the advent of the third part. Cyberpunk, of course, is in a slightly different position, because CD Projekt itself was already among the established game studios even before its release, which was not entirely true before the first or second Witcher.
But Sarzynski mentions comparisons with The Witcher more in terms of individual game elements, mechanics, art direction or the way of storytelling that the developers had to do during the development of Cyberpunk 2077. invent from the very beginning. In this regard, Sarzhinsky admitted that it is natural that not everything turns out perfectly on the first try.
However, in the second part, thanks to the use of already existing elements and the experience gained, the authors will be able to focus more on improving them and making a deeper connection. According to Sarzhinsky, this should be the result a comprehensive and most immersive experience. We’ll have to wait a few years to see if the Cyberpunk brand actually sees an evolution similar to what The Witcher 2 and 3 experienced. However, it’s safe to say that CD Projekt has big plans for cyberpunk.
