Another busy month of gaming is approaching in this incredible gaming year. Again, there were several games that could have easily made the month last on their own. This category of “show shows” includes, for example, Alan Wake 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder or Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. However, fans also praise the new Forza, the new Assassin or even Lords of the Fallen. It’s the latter that I sunk the most hours into this month and, like last month with Lies of P, I was once again convinced that someone other than the founders and masters of the genre from FromSoftware can really deliver a great “soul song” “. .

But even November will not slow down, and many more promising games await us. Probably the largest percentage of players are looking forward to the third Modern Warfare, and ours are undoubtedly looking forward to the very promising Czech iron on fire Last Train Home. Personally, I’ll admit I’m very interested in how both of these games turn out, but as an incorrigible otaku, I’m mostly focusing my time on the Japanese double combo of the new Persona and the new Yakuza. One way or another, it looks like there will again be plenty to choose from and something to look forward to. This also applies to this year’s announcement of the general games of the year, for which we are already carefully preparing, because it will be especially interesting.

October was undoubtedly the busiest month of the year, which itself is one of the strongest on record. I finally finished Star Wars Jedi: Survivor earlier this month. I really liked the first one, but, unfortunately, the second one disappointed me both with the plot (which only really unfolds in the last third) and with its particularly terrible technical condition, although I had been waiting for a patch for several months. In the days that followed, I prepared for the second Alan, playing either the first, the AWE DLC for Control, or the spin-off American Nightmare, while writing the second RCU special. In the meantime, I returned to the Orient Express, where I enjoyed a surprisingly good detective story, about which I have a more detailed review.

However, the main thing came at the end of the month. Alan Wake 2 came out a little late, but over two days and some really intense gaming sessions of over 10 hours, I managed to finish the game and bring you an embargo review. I expected a lot, but I received perhaps even more. It’s a completely unique experience, combining multiple media types, offering a great story and incredibly beautiful visuals. And, of course, a lot of interesting things for RCU connoisseurs! I’m already looking forward to writing a special issue dedicated to AW2, but in the meantime I’ll wait for the two story DLCs that are due out next year.

As for November, I’m especially looking forward to the sci-fi adventure The Invincible and the Czech real-time strategy Last Train Home. Given time, I might give Persona 5 Tactica a chance, and that convinced me, at least at Gamescom.

Perhaps for the first time this year I honestly waited for the game and got what I expected. I’m talking about Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which I jumped into right after completing Valhalla, so I was a little upset by the huge open world. On the other hand, the new Mirage is smaller, more advanced, stealthier and somewhat more similar to the old works (review here). It was a great refresher for me, and aside from the pressure of silent cooking and backstabbing, I especially enjoyed the theme of “What Freedom Really Is” that runs throughout the game. The predecessor of the Order of Assassins here often applies mandatory rules, which the main character Basim learns more and more about. Add to this sunny Baghdad, beautiful music and very entertaining parkour.

In addition to Assassin, I also played the anniversary game Bear and Breakfast, which we wanted to write about last year (yes, I admit, mainly because of the title), but it didn’t work out until now (review here). It’s nothing you haven’t played before, but Airbnb’s bear simulator can keep you occupied and distracted if you’re busy and need to switch off.

In November, the long-awaited sequel to the excellent game “The Talos Principle” comes out, where, in addition to puzzles, you unravel the meaning of humanity and other deeper questions. And I’m also interested in a small game called The Invincible, an adaptation of the science fiction work “Invincible” by Polish writer Stanislaw Lem. In addition, the game was created by a new developer, but it was published by 11 Bit Studios, which has many interesting games to its credit.

Last month I spent most of my time on the new Forza Motorsport, which, despite some minor shortcomings, certainly did not disappoint. This is a technically advanced and extremely content-rich game that is released every few years within the racing genre. On top of all this, the new Forza adds a sophisticated driving model that you’ll appreciate whether you play with the steering wheel or a controller. Personally, thanks to the Xbox Series X version, I managed to avoid the problematic PC version, which, unfortunately, spoils the game’s reputation in terms of optimization.

Taking a look at the November game offer, we can see that we will have some interesting games this month as well. I probably won’t surprise anyone if I say that I’m looking forward to the new part of the WRC series, which, thanks to the transition to EA and the Codemasters studio, will undergo significant changes this year, led by the transition to Unreal Engine 5. Among other games, I’m also interested in the Last strategy Train Home from Brno studio Ashborne Games, which attracts me mainly with its setting. But I’ll also be keeping an eye on early reactions to the sci-fi action epic Invincible and the so-far controversial action movie RoboCop: Rogue City.

In October I continued working on Lies of P for the first time, which I mentioned last time and which became one of my personal surprises of the year. I had no idea that I could enjoy a game that was trying to humiliate me forever. Although I expected to struggle a little more with the difficulty. I quickly picked up Twin Mirror and thus added Don’t Nod to my list of lost adventure games, although this title is clearly weaker than Life is Strange or Tell Me Why. I’ve done a few races in Forza Motorsport.

I’ve been immersed in Alan Waka 2 for the past few days and I’m really enjoying it. We discussed this at length on the podcast, but in short I can say that while it’s not entirely against my tastes when it comes to the game’s genre, I’m once again fascinated by what the developers at Remedy have been able to do. . In this case, it would not be an exaggeration to say that they cross media boundaries.

What about November? Of course, there will be Call of Duty and we can’t help but mention Czech Last Train Home. I’m most excited about a couple of games from earlier this month – the rather cute Tintin from Microids and Invincible, which adapts Stanislaw Lem’s Polish sci-fi fantasy of the same name.

Another month of 2023 is behind us and I must say that this time I did not stop for a moment. Right at the beginning of October, I dove into Lords of the Fallen. The world was so impressive that I had a hard time falling asleep because I didn’t want to leave broken bosses behind. But then Cities: Skylines 2 came out and I became completely immersed in building, after which Total War: Pharaoh brought even more challenges into my life. Boredom didn’t set in even at the end of the month, because when I wasn’t playing video games, it was time for board games.

At first glance, November seems a little quieter than October. However, I have a number of articles this month that I would like to pay close attention to. Due to the news, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 or The Talos Principal 2 look good. Czech news Last Train Home, Gothic 2 or a number of strategies that you can count on in November will certainly be interesting. So there will be a lot of fun.
